Reepham Market Place closes to traffic and parking on Sunday morning for the Marriott's Way 10K. Four of the five start waves are already full.
Reepham Market Place closes to traffic on Sunday morning, and nobody will be able to park there, because it is the finish line of the Marriott’s Way 10K.
The road closure runs from Ollands Road to Reepham Market Place while the race is on. Drivers and spectators heading for the town centre are being sent to Reepham High School instead. Broadland District Council, which organises the race, has published the closure but not the hours it will be in force (Marriott’s Way 10k, Broadland and South Norfolk).
The first runners set off from Aylsham at 10am and the last wave at 10.40am, so the disruption is a Sunday morning one.
It is close to sold out
Entries are handled by Total Race Timing, and its booking page shows how little room is left. Checked on the morning of Friday 18 September:
- Wave 1, 10am: full. “Entrance limit reached for this race”
- Wave 2, 10.10am: full
- Wave 3, 10.20am: full
- Wave 4, 10.30am: full
- Wave 5, 10.40am: 98% taken
Entry is £19 for runners affiliated to a club, £21 for everyone else, and £70 for a Corporate Challenge team of four from the same organisation. The minimum age is 16. Entries are non-refundable and the transfer window has closed (Marriott’s Way 10k entry page).
The route, and why it matters that it crosses roads
The course is a 10km trail run along the Marriott’s Way, the old railway line between Aylsham and Reepham. The council describes it as flat and mostly off road, on softer ground than tarmac.
It is not entirely away from traffic. The council’s own rules ban in-ear headphones and warn that anyone wearing them will be disqualified, “as road crossings are open to traffic”. Bone conduction headphones are the only type allowed under UK Athletics rules. If you drive near the route on Sunday morning, expect runners at crossings.
Sunday morning, hour by hour
Where to park, and the toilet trap
Runners are told to park at either Woodgate Nursery in Aylsham or Reepham High School, and to use the free shuttle bus between them. The bus must be booked in advance through the form linked from the council’s page. Seats go to runners first; spectators are offered anything left over.
One detail is easy to miss. The council says there are toilets at Woodgate Nursery and at Reepham Market Place, and no toilets at the start line or at Reepham High School. If you park at the high school and take the 8.20am bus, the first facilities you reach are at race HQ in Aylsham.
Water is available at 5km and at the finish. Bags dropped at Woodgate Nursery are moved to Reepham Market Place after the start and can be collected from 10.45am.
Where the entry money goes
The council says entry fees help fund some of its community services, with a share going to the chairman’s chosen charity. The race is sponsored by Ørsted. Finishers get a vest and a medal, and there are category prizes in five-year age bands from 40 to 44 up to 70 and over.
What it means for you
If you live in or near Reepham, plan Sunday morning around the Market Place being shut and unavailable for parking. The council has not published the closure times, so treat the whole 10am to 11am period as affected and allow longer either side.
If you still want to run it, one wave had a sliver of space left on Friday morning, at 10.40am. That will not last, and there is no mention anywhere of entry on the day.
If you are spectating, book a shuttle seat through the council’s form and expect to be told later whether there is room. Reepham High School is the parking point, not the Market Place.
If you are just driving through Broadland on Sunday, this is not the only thing happening. Buses are replacing trains between Norwich and Stowmarket on Saturday and Sunday, for the second weekend running (Greater Anglia), and the A11 is shut overnight between Thickthorn and Wymondham until Monday morning. Our Broadland roadworks and travel page carries the current closures, and parking in Broadland covers the district’s car parks, all of which are free.
